Websites with needless music

March 31st, 2007 No comments

Aaarrgghh!! One of my pet hates is websites which suddenly burst into music. It’s annoying when you’re at home and the music you actually are listening to is suddenly ruined by the website’s own musak. It’s even worse in a work environment.

The most heinous crime, however, is not to include any way of switching the damn noise off.

Excerpts from a Cat’s Daily Diary

Day 683 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and myself are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. The audacity!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe……. for now….

UK Rail to get 1000 new Carriages

March 14th, 2007 No comments

The government have announced that the UK rail network is to get 1000 new carriages to ease congestion.

Sounds like good news except that:

  1. Surprise, Surprise, the vast majority of these are destined for the government’s pet part of the the UK – the South East of England
  2. We won’t have all of them until 2014 – That’s seven years away – they are needed now.

Once again, too little, too late, and the south-east gets preferential treatment.

Thinking of buying a DAB Radio? – Wait

March 12th, 2007 3 comments

DAB Radio LogoWait until spring that is.

According to DigitalRadioTech.co.uk, current DAB receivers will be obsolete within a few years as DAB+ is introduced and the existing DAB services are switched off. The new DAB+ standard uses the AAC+ codec, while the existing services use MP2. Receivers capable of receiving the new services will only be available from spring.

That’s if you really want a poor quality alternative to FM. DAB is capable of so much more, but even the BBC has gone for content over quality. If you’re listening at home, stick to Digital Radio via Satellite or Freeview.

March 9th, 2007 No comments

You Tube/Google LogosIf you use the code on Google Video or Youtube to embed a video on your website, they give you the now defunct embed tag which breaks the HTML validation.

You can however get around this using the method on CK Samples blog.
