{"id":214,"date":"2006-04-05T11:58:51","date_gmt":"2006-04-05T10:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ianfitter.com\/blog\/?p=214"},"modified":"2009-04-04T18:29:18","modified_gmt":"2009-04-04T18:29:18","slug":"apple-mail-shows-bdt-instead-of-bst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ianfitter.com\/blog\/2006\/04\/05\/apple-mail-shows-bdt-instead-of-bst\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Mail shows BDT instead of BST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently changed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dti.gov.uk\/er\/sumtimetb.htm\">British Summer Time<\/a> in the UK, but Apple Mail is showing the datetimestamp with &#8216;BDT&#8217;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/www.ianfitter.com\/macuser\/mail1.gif\" alt=\"Screen Grab showing BDT\" \/><br \/>\nNow checking in System Preferences, clearly shows the timezone as BST and location UK.<br \/>\nInterestingly, changing the &#8221;long&#8221; time format under international settings from &#8216;GMT&#8217; to &#8216;Greenwich Mean Time&#8217; makes mail display:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/www.ianfitter.com\/macuser\/mail2.gif\" alt=\"Screen Grab showing British Daylight Time\" \/><br \/>\nSo it would appear that someone at Apple thinks we call it &#8216;British Daylight Time&#8217;. <a href=\"http:\/\/bugreport.apple.com\">I&#8217;ve reported it as a bug<\/a>, but I can&#8217;t see this being fixed any time soon. Now if it was a PST\/PDT issue, that would be a different story.<\/p>\n<h3>UPDATE<\/h3>\n<p>I have received a reply from Apple, saying &#8220;After further investigation it has been determined that this is a known issue, which is currently being investigated by engineering.&#8221; Hmmm&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>UPDATE: 24th July 2006<\/h3>\n<p>Still nothing from Apple, although I have found <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.icu-project.org\/cgi-bin\/locale-bugs\/returned?id=738;page=5;user=guest\">this bug report on the Common Locale Repository<\/a>. The actual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unicode.org\/cldr\/data\/dropbox\/timezones\/en_timezones.html\">page showing the wrong data is here<\/a>. (scroll down to No. 348).  If Apple use this as their source, then this could be the reason for the error.<\/p>\n<h3>UPDATE: 13th March 2007<\/h3>\n<p>The Common Locale Repository <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unicode.org\/cldr\/corrigenda.html\">appears to have been fixed<\/a>, so it remains to be seen if Apple have picked up the changes. The Clocks go forward in a couple of weeks time, so we&#8217;ll see if Apple Mail shows the correct data.
