Just tried installing the FCE 2 upgrade.
It asks for the serial number, and then the original serial number. I dug out my old box and entered the old number. The dialog box seemed to be waiting for more numbers/letters. I checked the ‘About…’ dialog and the serial number was correct. Turns out that while the first serial number check is case-insensitive, the second dialog box (original serial number) is case-sensitive. Entering it using all caps worked.

An odd thing to do, asking for the original serial number, because had it been a copy, the user only needs to look in the ‘about…’ box to find it there.

Oh well, it’s finished installing – off to try it…
